This morning many people around the UK have attended a coffee morning to raise money to support the Macmillan nurses and cancer victims.
It seems almost that a day doesn't go by when you hear the words "Oh you know _______ they have just been diagnosed with cancer." It is so sad that in this wonderful age of technology and increase in medical know-how we still do not seem to have the cure for cancer, and somebody, somewhere is battling for their lives as they face yet another round of chemo or radilogy!
It is a change not to be working with sick people all the time, as I am here looking after my elderly father. He has just turned 93 and is certainly not sitting around waiting for the inevitable! He is making the most of his life, and has a wide circle of friends. He is blessed with remarkable health and a sharp mind. He tells you what he has been up to during the day and others are just exhausted listening! Actually, just in this last year, he admits to slowing down! He still manages to sing in two choirs, and is popular, as there are not so many tenors around at the moment! He even anounced at my special Toastmaster's evening that he was a professional funeral attender! As he often attends a funeral or memorial at least once a week, either in the capacity as a friend or acquaintance, or as a member of the choir! He does at least get to attend some weddings as well, as that makes a balance to the dreariness of the dirges at funerals!
Today he has gone out to the golf course, to "have time with the boys!" Yes, he still manages to swing a club, but not so high or to get the ball so far, yet it is more often than not, straight down the fairway!
In our lives we need to aim far, and keep hitting the ball down the fairway, so that we keep our goals in sight and keep heading in the right direction! It does not matter if it takes 5 hits or 6 hits to get there, as long as you keep aiming for the target, and keep heading towards your goals!
So, once again, I will say it again: persistence is the key!
Use it to unlock the stuckness you may have been experiencing, and keep on keeping on!
have a great day!
