Last Sunday had a wonderful experience of Tea at Harrods!
I went there with my Australian friend who was over for a visit to the Big City, and my son and his girlfriend.
Over tea and cake we got talking, as you do. We talked about many things, but as my Australian friend and I had worked together in the same place for many years, the topic of work place harassment came up! We reviewed how many people had come and gone in the work place, and how many had suffered from bullying and harassment during that time! It was a wonderful time of being able to speak freely about such things in an extraordinary place, far removed from such goings on, which occurred on the other side of the world!
Having then said good bye to my friend, the rest of us piled in the car and headed to South London to sit in my sons' flat, drink some more tea and to continue our Deep and Meaningful discussion.
This all resulted from the fact that my ex-husband suffered from PTSD and had become very difficult to live with , to the point that it was not safe to continue to do so.
Our discussion progressed to our personal experiences through the time of living with my husband, and how he had been really unable to be present as a father/husband due to his own experience of not being fathered properly as his father had been absent so much due to war. So in reality he had never had a fair chance himself. He has his own healing journey to travel.
This led on to further discussion with how it had been for both my son and his girlfriend during their upbringing and how it had affected them, and to how they were now! It helped them to process how they were reacting to situations and to see how their thinking had been formulated due to their individual experiences. Which led them to realise how much they had in common, and yet also how much they both had to unlearn, so that their own healing could continue! Healing takes a life time!
The more we talked, the more the healing process was being worked out in all of us, as we were able to share our own thoughts and feelings more openly than ever before! It was such a good time, of being able to clear the air and to bond together in such a relaxed and informal manner!
Now I am hoping that others may also have such times to feel safe and able to trust enough to get to this point! I know that my other sons and many other acquaintances will have a lot of ground to cover before they are able to get to such a level! It was so refreshing to actually be able to talk about it all and to begin to see some of the processing through others eyes. Chatting together so calmly was very much part of the healing in itself!
Today I press on to take more steps on my own personal walk of healing. Speaking out about the process is part of the journey. Writing and sharing the process releases yet more salve into the wounds that have lain hidden beneath the facade of the face that you have presented to the world! It is a bit like pealing back the layers of an onion. There is so much to uncover and discover about oneself through it all. What lies buried beneath the surface, as all the years of having to cope and to soldier on, pushing back fear and anxiety, to appear normal and to survive from one day to the next; gradually and gently begin to come to the fore and allow themselves to be looked at and examined in a non-threatening way.
Travelling home to where I am now currently living, it was a time of realising how much water has gone under the bridge since those days. It is time to reassess yet again, and to make positive steps to branch out, to break away from the pain and oppression of the past and to pursue new paths to freedom. To rediscover JOY! to allow oneself time to appreciate some of the more pleasurable things in life. To discover that there is a LIFE after pain and sorrow, that there is HOPE and opportunity to make a difference to yourself and to others.
So I keep on sharing my journey of healing, in the hope that it will touch others and help them on their journey as well. You have to learn to love yourself as well!
God bless. have a great day!
